Transfer of Credit

The first thirty credits of the PhD are transferred in from your MA degree. By the end of your first year in the program, you will need to complete a transfer of credit form and send it to the program director for approval.

Credit Earned at Other Institutions

Students who have completed coursework at other universites and want to apply that coursework to a Mason degree should review the university policies governing transfer of credit.

If you are interested in requesting a transfer of credit, follow these steps.

  • Complete the Graduate Transfer of Credit Request form
  • Set up a meeting with the director of acadmics
  • Provide a copy of official transcripts showing the courses to be transferred
  • Provide a copy of the syllabus and any other information about the course that will enable the faculty to make an informed decision (e.g., copies of the catalog or course description from the university website)

Graduate Transfer of Credit Requests will not be approved or processed without your official transcript.

Credit Earned at Mason in Non-Degree Status

Students who have completed coursework in graduate non-degree status at Mason and wish to apply that coursework to a Mason degree should review the university policies governing transfer of credit.

If you want to transfer credit earned in non-degree status, complete the Graduate Transfer of Credit Request form. Set up a meeting with the director of your program. Bring to the meeting the form and a copy of your unofficial transcript available through PatriotWeb.
